Leighton, Korbel Named CCIW Women’s Soccer Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Illinois Wesleyan’s Caroline Leighton and Elmhurst’s Allison Korbel were named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Soccer Players of the Week Tuesday.

Leighton, a senior midfielder/forward from Bloomington, Ill., and Normal Community High School, made the most of her final two regular season games, tallying four goals and two assists in two wins that helped Illinois Wesleyan secure its first-ever CCIW championship in women’s soccer. Leighton scored three goals and two assists in a 9-0 win over North Park on November 1. She also had one of the Titans’ five goals in a 5-0 shutout of Millikin on October 29. In the Illinois Wesleyan record book, Leighton now ranks No. 4 in scoring (94 points) and goals (41) and tied for 12th in assists (12). She is second all-time with 77 games played.

Korbel, a sophomore goalkeeper from Schaumburg, Ill., and Schaumburg High School, posted two solid performances in goal to lead the Bluejays to a 1-0-1 record last week. She allowed only one goal while recording nine saves in Elmhurst’s 2-1 win over Carthage on October 29. Korbel then recorded nine saves and posted a shutout while helping Elmhurst to a scoreless 0-0 draw at Carroll on November 1.
