Carthage men win fourth consecutive CCIW swimming title

2011 CCIW Men's Swimming Championship

WHEATON, Ill. – The Carthage Red Men won its fourth-straight title at the 2011 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Swimming Championships Saturday.

Carthage, winners of five CCIW titles overall, won with a score of 956, followed by Wheaton (858.5), Rose-Hulman (571), Illinois Wesleyan (448), Augustana (246.5), Millikin (150) and North Central (123).

Marcus Duval of Illinois Wesleyan and Justin Reppy of Augustana took home Co-Most Valuable Swimmer honors while Illinois Wesleyan's Mikey Firth earned outstanding performer recognition. Augustana's Scott Johannsen was named the men's Coach of the Year.

Reppy won the first men’s event of Saturday evening in the 1650 freestyle, finishing first with a time of 16:15.63. Carthage’s Adam Glover placed second (16:30.85). 

Carthage’s Kyle Drake was champion in the 200 backstroke (1:50.35) while Firth placed second for Illinois Wesleyan with a time of 1:50.82.

Ryan Ortmann won Carthage’s second individual title on Saturday in the 100 freestyle (46.13), followed by Wheaton’s AJ Provonsha (46.82).

Carthage’s Adam Van Huis captured the individual title in the 200 breaststroke (2:08.35) while Wheaton’s Preston Conger finished second (2:09.19).

Duval won the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:54.41. Carthage’s Doug Schranck finished second (1:54.64).

The final event of the night saw the Carthage 400 relay team of Bob Pellican, Blake Bendix, Ortmann and Isaac Rothenbaum win with a time of 3:04.90. Wheaton’s Provonsha, Matt Gallagher, Tim Walker and Dan Nahigian placed second (3:06.61).
