NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan’s Tara Clemens, Carthage’s Mindy Harrington, North Central’s 4x400-meter relay team and Augustana’s Pat Zeunik were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Tuesday.
Clemens, a sophomore from Bloomington, Ill., and Bloomington High School, won the 800-meter run at Illinois Wesleyan’s Keck Invitational on Saturday, clocking an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 2:12.82, which is currently ranked first in the CCIW. Clemens is a Physics major.
Harrington, a senior from Spring Grove, Ill., and Richmond-Burton High School, placed second in the weight throw at the Keck Invitational, throwing an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 18.31 meters, which is also a new school record. Harrington also placed second in the shot put with a distance of 14.41 meters. She is an Exercise Sport Science major.
The North Central 4x400 relay team of Jon Howard (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South/International Business), Bai Kabba (Batavia, Ill./H.S./Exercise Science), Jon Caron (Romeoville, Ill./H.S./English-Writing) and Dan Benton (Westmont, Ill./H.S./Psychology) won at the Squig Converse Invitational at Wisconsin-Whitewater with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:17.97. That time was only 75 seconds slower than North Central’s 4x400 winning effort at last year’s NCAA Indoor Championship.
Zeunik, a senior from Bloomington, Ill., and Bloomington Central Catholic High School, won the triple jump at Wisconsin-Whitewater on Friday with a school record and NCAA automatic qualifying distance of 49-4. He also placed second in the long jump with a distance of 22-8 ½. Zeunik is a Biology major.
