NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Wheaton’s Garrett Meador, Carthage’s Alex Vitkauskas and Wheaton’s Scott Roche were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Players of the Week Monday.
Meador, a senior quarterback from Fishers, Ind., and Heritage Christian High School (Political Science and Business/Economics double major), completed 23-of-30 pass attempts for 300 yards and six touchdown passes during Wheaton’s 54-34 win over Albion in the Thunder’s season opener Saturday. Meador tied Wheaton’s single-game record with those six touchdown passes, which were thrown to six different receivers. He also rushed for 66 yards on seven carries.
Vitkauskas, a junior safety from Tinley Park, Ill., and St. Rita High School (undecided major), recorded two interceptions during the Red Men’s 38-0 shutout of Lakeland on Saturday. The first interception Vitkauskas ran back 38 yards in the first quarter to put Carthage up 14-0.
Roche, a senior kicker from Evergreen, Colo., and Faith Christian High School (Business/Economics and Geology double major), was 2-of-2 on field goals with a long of 46 yards, and 6-of-6 on PATs during the Thunder’s victory over Albion. His 27-yard field goal in the 2nd quarter extended Wheaton's lead to 17-9 and his 46-yarder in the final three minutes of the first half gave Wheaton a 20-15 lead.
