Hofer, Rashid named CCIW Baseball Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Elmhurst’s Zach Hofer and North Central’s Jon Rashid were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Baseball Players of the Week Tuesday.

Hofer, a senior infielder from Algonquin, Ill., and Jacobs High School (Finance major), batted .588 with 10 runs on 10 hits, 15 RBI, two home runs, five doubles and a 1.353 slugging percentage as the Bluejays went 3-1 over the weekend. In the Bluejays' doubleheader sweep of Capital, Hofer finished a combined 5-for-8 at the plate with five runs scored and seven RBI. He added two doubles, a triple, and three stolen bases against the Crusaders. In Sunday's doubleheader split with Hanover, Hofer finished game one with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with a double and two home runs, including a grand slam. He scored three times and drove in five. In the Bluejays' 16-6 win in game two, Hofer roped a pair of doubles, scored two runs and drove in three.

Rashid, a junior pitcher from Skokie, Ill., and Niles West High School (Physical Education major), earned his first win of the season during an 11-0 victory over Buena Vista on March 10. He pitched eight shutout innings, giving up only three hits while striking out six and walking one. After allowing a single in the first inning, he did not give up another hit until the eighth.
