NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Millikin’s
Alex Kemp and North Central’s
Zach Heerspink were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Tuesday.
Kemp, a freshman from Tuscola, Illinois and Tuscola High School (Exploratory Studies major), won the 200-meter dash (21.94) and placed second in the 100-meter dash (11.03) at the Ashford University Spring Classic on April 6. He also ran anchor on the winning 400-meter relay team that finished with a time of 43.02, and ran a leg on the 1600-meter relay team that finished third. Kemp currently leads the CCIW and is 15th in the nation in the 200.
Heerspink, a senior from Holland, Michigan and Holland High School (Exercise Science major), won the long jump with a distance of 23-8 ¾ (7.23 meters) and the high jump with a height of 6-6 ¾ (2.00 meters) at Lewis University’s Chicagoland Championship over the weekend. The Cardinals won the event as Heerspink contributed 20 points to the team title.

The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) was founded in 1946 and currently services eight member institutions including Augustana College (Rock Island, IL), Carthage College (Kenosha, WI), Elmhurst College (Elmhurst, IL), Illinois Wesleyan University (Bloomington, IL), Millikin University (Decatur, IL), North Central College (Naperville, IL), North Park University (Chicago, IL) and Wheaton College (Wheaton, IL). During the 2011-12 academic year, the CCIW honored 1,323 academic all-conference recipients, 16 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, 1 CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year, 89 all-Americans and three national championship teams.
