NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Augustana’s
Krista Watson and North Central’s
Vlasta Mangia were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Softball Players of the Week Tuesday.
Watson, a junior short stop from Coal City, Illinois and Coal City High School (Biology major), batted .545 (6-for-11) with four runs, two doubles, two home runs, five RBI and a 1.273 slugging percentage in helping the Vikings go 3-1 in the CCIW last week. In a double-header sweep of third-ranked Illinois Wesleyan on April 6, she went a combined 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, a double and a home run. In a split with Millikin on April 7, Watson finished a combined 3-for-6 with two runs, three RBI and a home run.
Mangia, a junior pitcher from Cicero, Illinois and Morton High School (Physical Education major), went 4-0 for the Cardinals last week. She pitched seven innings with five strikeouts and just one walk in an 8-0 shutout of Dominican (Ill.) on April 2. Mangia followed with a five-strikeout performance and gave up only one earned run in a 5-2 win over Illinois Wesleyan on April 4. She finished the week by pitching both games of a double header against Carroll on April 6, combining for six strikeouts, two walks and one earned run.

The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) was founded in 1946 and currently services eight member institutions including Augustana College (Rock Island, IL), Carthage College (Kenosha, WI), Elmhurst College (Elmhurst, IL), Illinois Wesleyan University (Bloomington, IL), Millikin University (Decatur, IL), North Central College (Naperville, IL), North Park University (Chicago, IL) and Wheaton College (Wheaton, IL). During the 2011-12 academic year, the CCIW honored 1,323 academic all-conference recipients, 16 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, 1 CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year, 89 all-Americans and three national championship teams.
