NAPERVILLE, Ill. – North Central’s
Spencer Stanek and Augustana’s
Erik Westerberg were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Players of the Week Monday.
Stanek, a senior quarterback from Mokena, Illinois and Lincoln-Way East High School (Economics/Finance major), won his second-straight offensive player of the week award after leading the Cardinals to a 41-14 victory against Wisconsin-Stout on Saturday. He set a North Central single-game record for passing accuracy (92.3%) and tied a career high with four touchdown passes in just 2 ½ quarters of action. He was 24-for-26 for 278 yards and rushed for 50 yards on six carries and one rushing touchdown. Stanek has completed 50-of-61 passes (82.0%) and guided the Cardinal offense to 1,258 yards in two games.
Westerberg, a senior linebacker from Elmhurst, Illinois and York High School (Mathematics/Secondary Education major), finished with eight tackles, including six solo and four tackles for loss during a 35-10 win at Loras on Saturday. He was part of a defense that held All-Iowa Intercollegiate Athletics Conference running back Nate Carrier to just 11 yards on 17 carries. Loras totaled just 120 yards of offense.

During the 2012-13 academic year, the CCIW honored over 1,400 academic all-conference recipients, 15 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-Americans, 30 CoSIDA Academic All-District recipients, 68 all-Americans and one national championship team.
