NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Wheaton’s Williams Byrd and North Central’s Dylan Mahler were named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Co-Wrestlers of the Week on Tuesday.

Byrd, a junior from Birmingham, Alabama and Mountain Brook High School (Communication major), won a critical match against North Central’s Nathan Segal at 149 pounds during a 20-17 dual-meet victory over the Cardinals on January 21. Byrd won the match by a 9-2 decision.

Mahler, a junior from Marquette, Michigan and Marquette Senior High School (Entrepreneurship major), went 2-0 at UW-Whitewater’s Border Brawl over the weekend. Competing at 285 pounds, Mahler earned a 6-4 victory over UW-Oshkosh’s Brandon Callper and then won by fall over UW-Eau Claire’s Justin Karkula. The Cardinals won both dual meets, beating Oshkosh 36-7 and Eau Claire 33-13.

The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) was founded in 1946 and currently services eight member institutions including Augustana College (Rock Island, IL), Carthage College (Kenosha, WI), Elmhurst College (Elmhurst, IL), Illinois Wesleyan University (Bloomington, IL), Millikin University (Decatur, IL), North Central College (Naperville, IL), North Park University (Chicago, IL) and Wheaton College (Wheaton, IL). During the 2012-13 academic year, the CCIW honored over 1,400 academic all-conference recipients, 15 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-Americans, 30 CoSIDA Academic All-District recipients, 68 all-Americans and one national championship team.
