CCIW men's & women's soccer teams honored by NSCAA for academics

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – A total of five College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) soccer programs, three men and two women, earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic honors for the 2013-14 academic year on Monday.

On the men’s side, three CCIW teams out of 279 nationally earned NSCAA Team Academic honors including North Central (3.01 GPA), Illinois Wesleyan (3.31 GPA) and Augustana (3.36 GPA). It marked the fourth-straight year and fifth time overall that Illinois Wesleyan earned this honor, and fourth-straight year for North Central. This was Augustana’s first time winning this award.

On the women’s side, two CCIW teams out of 582 nationally earned NSCAA Team Academic honors including Augustana (3.41 GPA) and Illinois Wesleyan (3.35 GPA). Both the Vikings and Titans were two of the 188 schools to have both their men’s and women’s programs honored. Augustana has earned this award four times, while this is Illinois Wesleyan’s third honor.

The NSCAA Team Academic Award was instituted in 1996. To qualify for the award, a team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).

The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) was founded in 1946 and currently services eight member institutions including Augustana College (Rock Island, IL), Carthage College (Kenosha, WI), Elmhurst College (Elmhurst, IL), Illinois Wesleyan University (Bloomington, IL), Millikin University (Decatur, IL), North Central College (Naperville, IL), North Park University (Chicago, IL) and Wheaton College (Wheaton, IL). During the 2013-14 academic year, the CCIW honored over 1,400 academic all-conference recipients, 14 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, 33 CoSIDA Academic All-District recipients and 87 all-Americans.
