Crain, Guyette named CCIW Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – North Central’s John Crain and Carthage’s Derrik Guyette were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.

Crain, a senior from Dunlap, Illinois and Dunlap High School (Sociology-Criminal Justice major), won the 3,000-meter run at North Central’s Chicagoland Championships on Saturday, finishing with a time of 8:11.42. His time set a facility record and leads both the CCIW and NCAA Division III national lists. Crain’s performance earned him United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week honors.

Guyette, a junior from Hortonville, Wisconsin and Hortonville High School (Exercise and Sport Science major), won the shot put at the Chicagoland Championships with a season best throw of 16.72 meters (54-10 ¼), the eighth-best mark in the country. He also finished second in the weight throw with a toss of 17.89 meters (58-8 ½). He currently leads the CCIW in both events.

The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) was founded in 1946 and currently services eight member institutions including Augustana College (Rock Island, IL), Carthage College (Kenosha, WI), Elmhurst College (Elmhurst, IL), Illinois Wesleyan University (Bloomington, IL), Millikin University (Decatur, IL), North Central College (Naperville, IL), North Park University (Chicago, IL) and Wheaton College (Wheaton, IL). During the 2012-13 academic year, the CCIW honored over 1,400 academic all-conference recipients, 15 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-Americans, 30 CoSIDA Academic All-District recipients, 68 all-Americans and one national championship team.
