North Central's Tardy named CCIW Wrestler of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – North Central’s Josh Tardy was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Wrestler of the Week on Tuesday.

Tardy, a sophomore from Naperville, Illinois and Naperville Central High School (Physical Education major), took third place at 157 pounds during Wheaton’s Pete Willson Invitational over the weekend. Competing as the fifth-seed, Tardy defeated Lakeland's Matt Weber in his opening bout, and upset the fourth-seed, Jamey Simmons of UW-Stevens Point, 9-7. Tardy's lone loss of the weekend came to top-ranked Nazar Kulchytskyy of UW-Oshkosh in the semifinals. However, he rallied and beat Wheaton’s Mark Savenok 13-4. Tardy finished the weekend with a 4-3 win over 6th-ranked Terner Gott of John Carroll in the third place match.

The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) was founded in 1946 and currently services eight member institutions including Augustana College (Rock Island, IL), Carthage College (Kenosha, WI), Elmhurst College (Elmhurst, IL), Illinois Wesleyan University (Bloomington, IL), Millikin University (Decatur, IL), North Central College (Naperville, IL), North Park University (Chicago, IL) and Wheaton College (Wheaton, IL). During the 2012-13 academic year, the CCIW honored over 1,400 academic all-conference recipients, 15 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-Americans, 30 CoSIDA Academic All-District recipients, 68 all-Americans and one national championship team.
