NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Millikin’s
Julian Gutierrez and North Central’s
Russell Hoh were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Baseball Players of the Week on Tuesday.
Gutierrez, a sophomore outfielder from Orland Park, Illinois and Carl Sandburg High School (Digital Media Marketing major), batted .440 (11-for-25) with nine runs, four doubles, three home runs, nine RBI and a .960 slugging percentage for the Big Blue last week. He finished with four multi-hit games including going 3-for-5 with a home run in game one against North Central on April 5 and was 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in game two. He was 3-for-4 with two runs, five RBI, two doubles and a home run in a 14-7 win over Eureka on April 7 and was 2-for-4 with a run and two doubles in a 2-1 win over Elmhurst on April 9.
Hoh, a sophomore pitcher from Lockport, Illinois and Lockport High School, was 2-0 against CCIW competition last week. He went seven innings at Millikin on April 5 as he gave up one earned run, struck out seven batters and gave up one walk in a 6-4 win over the Big Blue. He pitched six innings and gave up no earned runs, along with six strikeouts, in an 11-3 win over North Park on April 11. For the week, Hoh finished with a 0.69 ERA and lowered his conference-leading ERA to 0.72 on the season.
