Orlando Hernandez, Wheaton’s
Eric Stevenson and North Central’s
Zane Lodico were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Players of the Week on Monday.
Hernandez, a sophomore quarterback from Peoria, Illinois and Peoria High School (Physical Education major), accounted for 214 of his team’s 371 yards during a 42-10 win over North Park in the CCIW opener on Saturday. He totaled 62 rushing yards on 13 carries (4.8-yard average) and completed 11-of-22 passes for 152 yards and four touchdowns against the Vikings, including three touchdown passes of 17 yards and a 10-yard TD pass.
Stevenson, a sophomore linebacker from Lewisville, Texas and Prestonwood Christian Academy (Business/Economics major), led the Thunder with a career-high 15 tackles (13 solo) in a 19-14 win at Carthage in the CCIW opener on Saturday. Stevenson made two tackles inside the Wheaton two-yard line as part of a goal-line stance that stopped the Red Men from scoring on first-and-goal from the six.
Lodico, a freshman punter from Lake Zurich, Illinois and Lake Zurich High School (Chemistry major), tallied 205 yards on five punts (41.0-yard average) during a 34-7 win against Illinois Wesleyan in the CCIW opener on Saturday. His longest punt of the night went for 52 yards and three of them were inside the Titans’ 20-yard line. Only one of his five punts was returned.
