North Central set to host 2018 CCIW Wrestling Championship February 8

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – North Central College’s Merner Field House will host the 2018 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Wrestling Championship this Thursday at 2 p.m.
 
This will mark the second year that Concordia-Wisconsin, Lakeland and the Milwaukee School of Engineering will compete with CCIW core members Augustana, Elmhurst, Millikin, 12th-ranked North Central, and Wheaton. Last year’s event featured the most teams competing since a nine-team conference championship was held in 1985.   
 
The 2018 championship will feature 10 CCIW student-athletes from the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Individual Rankings. This list includes Wheaton’s Carlos Fuentez (#4, 125 pounds), Elmhurst’s Anthony Munoz (#5, 133 pounds), Millikin’s Chris Williams (#5, 141 pounds) and Bradan Birt (#6, 149 pounds), Elmhurst’s Keone Derain (#6, 165 pounds), Wheaton’s Frank Aiello (#7, 165 pounds), Augustana’s Christos Giatras (#5, 184 pounds), North Central’s Tyler Vittal (#10, 197 pounds) and Emonte Logan (#8, 285 pounds), and the Milwaukee School of Engineering’s Austin Bellile (#10, 285 pounds).
 
North Central will provide live results of this year’s championship via Track Wrestling.
 
The CCIW began sponsoring wrestling in 1957 as Augustana has won 37 titles including its most recent one in 2014. Elmhurst, under the direction of head coach Steve Marianetti, enter as the defending champion and have won seven titles in program history, all under Marianetti.

The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) was founded in 1946 and currently services nine member institutions including Augustana College (Rock Island, IL), Carroll University (Waukesha, WI), Carthage College (Kenosha, WI), Elmhurst College (Elmhurst, IL), Illinois Wesleyan University (Bloomington, IL), Millikin University (Decatur, IL), North Central College (Naperville, IL), North Park University (Chicago, IL) and Wheaton College (Wheaton, IL). During the 2016-17 academic year, the CCIW honored over 1,900 academic all-conference recipients, 10 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, 33 CoSIDA Academic All-District recipients, one CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year and over 100 all-Americans.
