North Central's Norvell, Winder named CCIW Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – North Central’s Matt Norvell and Luke Winder were selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.
 
Norvell, a junior from Monticello, Illinois and Monticello High School (History/Finance major), finished second (first collegiate finisher) in the 5,000-meter run at the UW-Platteville Invitational on Thursday. He finished with an outdoor best time of 14:28.49, which ranks first in the CCIW and fourth on the NCAA Division III national list via TFRRS.org.
 
Winder, a senior from Joliet, Illinois and Plainfield Central High School (Exercise Science major), won the “B” section of the pole vault at the Texas Invitational on Saturday. He finished with a height of 17-8 ½ (5.40 meters), which ranks first in both the CCIW and in Division III. Winder’s mark was better than all of the competition in the “A” section except for Renaud LaVillenie of France, who cleared a world-leading height of 19-6 ¼.
