North Central's Barcelata named CCIW Women's Tennis Player of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – North Central’s Diana Barcelata was selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday.
 
Barcelata, a junior from Veracruz, Mexico and International High School (Broadcast Communication major), went 4-0 in a pair of team victories for the Cardinals last week. Barcelata and teammate Tiffany Smolik beat the Milwaukee School of Engineering’s (MSOE) Carly Grant and Sammy Soeder at No. 1 doubles (8-5), while Barcelata topped Grant at No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-1) on April 17. Against Simpson on April 21, Barcelata and teammate Morgan House beat Megan Bradley and Cassidy Bierbrodt at No. 1 Doubles (8-4), followed by a 6-0, 6-1 win over Bradley at No. 1 singles. The Cardinals topped MSOE 7-2 and Simpson 8-1. Barcelata moved to 17-7 in singles play this year.
