carthage crowned 2009 cciw men's tennis champion, Earn at-large bid

KENOSHA, Wis. – Carthage won its sixth-straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) men’s tennis title Saturday in a 6-3 victory over Wheaton in the championship match at the Smeds Tennis Center.

The win was the seventh CCIW title in school history for the Red Men, all happening in the last nine seasons.

Carthage (17-6, 5-0) earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship, announced on Monday, May 4. The Red Men wil travel to St. Louis, Mo., to play in the Central Region Championship at the Washington University Tao Tennis Center.

Augustana, which finished fifth in the CCIW during the regular season, took third at the tournament by defeating No. 3 seed Illinois Wesleyan, 6-3 in the consolation match. Fourth-seeded North Central topped sixth-seeded Elmhurst, 6-3 in the fifth-place match.
