NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Joe Chupp of Wheaton and Tom Anthony of Augustana were named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Football Players of the Week for their performances Saturday, Oct. 8.
Chupp, a junior wide receiver from Lawrenceville, Ga., recorded a career-high 217 receiving yards in Saturday’s 41-35 overtime win against Millikin. Chupp caught a career-best 11 passes, including a 61-yard touchdown bomb that sparked Wheaton’s 14-point rally in the fourth quarter that sent the game into overtime.
In a 7-0 Augustana victory against No. 12 Carthage on Saturday night, Anthony, a senior from Bettendorf, Iowa, recorded eight solo tackles and had one interception and one pass deflection to lead the Vikings. Anthony leads NCAA Division III in interceptions with seven. The Vikings pitched a shutout at Carthage while allowing 225 yards in total offense (66 rushing and 159 passing).
CCIW football continues its season on Saturday, October 15 as Illinois Wesleyan travels to Augustana, while North Central hosts Carthage. Wheaton travels to Elmhurst, while North Park plays at Millikin.
