NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Evans Jones of Carthage, Randy Wright of Elmhurst and Pete Ittersagen of Wheaton were named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Players of the Week Monday.
Jones, a sophomore quarterback from Grayslake, Ill., who missed most of the 2007 season with a knee injury, completed 23-of-35 passes for a school-record and Art Keller Field-record 428 yards in the Red Men’s 70-46 win over Hope on Saturday. He shattered a school mark of 316 yards set by teammate Dan DeBoeuf versus Lakeland in 2007, and broke a field record of 404 yards set by Illinois Wesleyan’s Kraig Ladd, also last season. Jones’ six touchdown passes tied a Carthage game record set by Patrick Brown at North Park in 2000. Jones’ 434 total offensive yards (428 yards passing, six yards rushing) broke Pete Baranek’s school record of 385 yards versus North Central in 1985, along with an Art Keller Field mark of 360 yards set by Millikin’s Mike Kohl in 1996.
Wright, a linebacker from Bellwood, Ill., and Fenwick High School, tied an Elmhurst single-game record by recording three sacks (-25 yards) in the Bluejays’ 31-14 win over Olivet on Saturday. Wright also led the team in total tackles (10) and recorded 3.5 tackles for loss of 26 yards. Wright also recovered a fumble in the win.
Ittersagen, a senior cornerback from Wheaton, Ill., and Wheaton North High School, came through in the Thunder’s 10-7 win against fifth-ranked Bethel on Saturday. Ittersagen amassed 127 total return yards in the game (the same amount of total offensive yards in the game for Wheaton). He returned three punts for 106 yards, including a 65-yard punt return for Wheaton’s lone touchdown in the victory. He also had a 21-yard kickoff return. His touchdown marked the fourth time in Ittersagen’s career that he returned a punt for a touchdown to set a new Wheaton career record and also tie the school career record for touchdown returns (kickoff/punt).
