NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Six College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) football players were named 2009 D3Football.com All-Americans after the NCAA Division III national championship game on Saturday.
Augustana offensive lineman Blaine Westemeyer (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest), this season’s winner of the Gagliardi Trophy, took home first team honors after winning American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-America accolades last week.
Three CCIW football players were named to the second team including Carthage wide receiver Jeff Koeneman (Barrington, Ill./Fremd), Carthage kicker/punter Tyler Funk (Racine, Wis./Horlick), and Illinois Wesleyan linebacker Nick Nikolich (Libertyville, Ill./H.S.), this season’s CCIW Don Larson Defensive Player of the Year.
A pair of CCIW offensive linemen took home third team honors including North Central’s Josh Delancy (Stuart, Fla./Jensen Beach) and Illinois Wesleyan’s Travis Boothe (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook).
In addition, 18 CCIW football players were recently named to the D3Football.com All-North Region team.
Westemeyer, Koeneman, Nikolich and Funk took home first team all-region honors while Delancy was a member of the second team and Boothe was a member of the third team.
North Central offensive lineman Kyle Antos (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South), Elmhurst linebacker Randy Wright (Bellwood, Ill./Fenwick), and Wheaton defensive back Brian Hollett (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams) were named to the second team.
North Central quarterback Aaron Fanthorpe (Naperville, Ill./North), Carthage wide receiver Nick Merchut (Bartlett, Ill./H.S.) Illinois Wesleyan offensive lineman Keely Flood (Lombard, Ill./Montini Catholic), Wheaton offensive lineman Justin Carpenter (Tulsa, Okla./Bishop Kelley), and North Central tight end Kyle Fiedorowicz (Johnsburg, Ill./H.S.) were named to the third team offense.
North Central defensive lineman Robert Champion (Wauconda, Ill./H.S.), Wheaton linebacker Ryan Hoyt (Broken Arrow, Okla./Union), and Illinois Wesleyan defensive back Roman Hunter (Chicago, Ill./Gordon Tech) were named to the third team defense. Illinois Wesleyan punter Dennis Zic (Wood Dale, Ill./Fenton) was also named to the third team.
