Elmhurst picked to repeat as CCIW men's soccer champions

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Elmhurst was picked to win its second straight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) men's soccer title according to the CCIW's head men's soccer coaches' preseason poll conducted Tuesday.

The Bluejays won the poll with 48 points including six first place votes. Elmhurst (13-4-4, 5-0-2 in 2009) won its first-ever CCIW men's soccer title last season, advancing to the CCIW tournament's championship game and then the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship.

Wheaton (14-4-3, 4-1-2) finished second in the voting with 43 points including one first place vote. Carthage (7-8-4, 4-3-0) was third with 33 points, while North Park (10-5-3, 3-2-2) was fourth with 32 points including one first place vote.

Illinois Wesleyan (5-9-3, 2-4-1) was fifth with 25 points. Augustana (6-10-3, 3-2-2) and North Central (8-10-0, 2-5-0) tied for sixth with 16 points apiece. Millikin (5-13-2, 0-6-1) rounded out the poll in eighth with 11 points.

Voting in the preseason poll is done by the CCIW's head men’s soccer coaches. Each coach votes for the seven other schools in the conference in order of predicted finish. Points are assigned in reverse order of voting (seven points for first, six for second, etc.). Coaches may not vote for their own team.
