Carthage, North Park tie for CCIW preseason men's soccer honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Carthage and North Park were each picked to win the 2012 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) men’s soccer title according to a preseason poll announced Wednesday.

Both the Red Men and Vikings topped the poll with 43 points and three first place votes apiece.

Carthage (14-6-2, 5-1-1) won its second regular season title in school history in 2011 while North Park (11-4-3, 4-2-1) has advanced to the NCAA’s postseason in each of the last two years.

Wheaton (10-8-2, 4-2-1) placed third in the preseason poll with 40 points including two first place votes. Illinois Wesleyan (8-8-1, 3-3-1) finished fourth with 30 points, followed by Elmhurst (8-7-4, 3-2-2) (26), Augustana (13-6-0, 3-4-0) (18), North Central (10-5-2, 2-3-2) (17) and Millikin (0-17-0, 0-7-0) (seven).

Voting is done by the CCIW’s head men’s soccer coaches. Each coach votes for the seven other schools in the conference in order of predicted finish. Points are assigned in reverse order of voting (seven points for first, six for second, etc.). Coaches may not vote for their own teams.
