Havel, Martin named CCIW Baseball Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Elmhurst’s Ben Havel and Wheaton’s Trey Martin were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Baseball Players of the Week on Tuesday.

Havel, a freshman infielder from Carol Stream, Illinois and Bartlett High School (Physical Education major), batted .588 (10-for-17) with four runs, three RBI and a .765 slugging percentage for the 3-1 Bluejays last week. He hit safely in every game and had Elmhurst’s only RBI in a 3-1 loss at Concordia (Wis.) on April 16. Havel hit .643 (9-for-14) in the Bluejays’ first three-game sweep of Carthage since 2004.  In the team's series-opening 7-2 win last Friday, Havel finished 5-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and two stolen bases. He added two more hits and a run scored in the second game of the doubleheader on Friday. Havel closed out the Carthage series on Saturday with a pair of doubles and two RBI.

Martin, a senior pitcher from Wheaton, Illinois and Wheaton North High School (Communication major), won his third consecutive pitcher of the week honor as he extended his scoreless streak to 29 innings, which is the seventh-longest streak in NCAA Division III history. He set a school record with 15 strikeouts in a 3-0 shutout of Millikin on April 19, giving up just two hits and one walk. It was Martin’s third-straight complete-game shutout.
