WashU's Davidson, North Central's Beesley, Wheaton's Bowes named CCIW Football Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Washington University in St. Louis' Johnny Davidson, North Central's Jake Beesley and Wheaton's Griffin Bowes were selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Players of the Week on Monday.

Davidson, a junior quarterback from Inverness, Illinois and Barrington High School (Finance & Economics major), won his second-straight CCIW Offensive Player of the Week honor following his performance in a 49-42 win at Millikin on Saturday. He completed 31-of-44 passes for 354 yards, four touchdown passes and no interceptions, while also rushing for two touchdowns. He went over 5,000 yards of total offense for his career (5,081 yards) and currently has the third-highest total in school history. 

Beesley, a sophomore defensive back from Champaign, Illinois and Champaign Central High School, totaled a team-high 10 tackles, all solo, in a 38-20 win at Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday. He stopped two Titan red-zone possessions with a forced fumble and an interception, which was his team-leading third of the season. 

Bowes, a junior kicker from Grand Rapids, Michigan and Grand Rapids Christian (Business/Economics major), scored 12 points in helping lead Wheaton to a 48-3 win at Carthage on Saturday. He finished 2-of-2 on field goals including a 33-yard kick with 2:31 remaining in the second quarter that put the Thunder up 17-3. He added a 32-yard field goal with 7:58 remaining in the third quarter that extended Wheaton's lead to 34-3. Bowes was also 6-of-6 on PATs.

The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) was founded in 1946 and currently services nine member institutions including Augustana College (Rock Island, IL), Carroll University (Waukesha, WI), Carthage College (Kenosha, WI), Elmhurst College (Elmhurst, IL), Illinois Wesleyan University (Bloomington, IL), Millikin University (Decatur, IL), North Central College (Naperville, IL), North Park University (Chicago, IL) and Wheaton College (Wheaton, IL). During the 2017-18 academic year, the CCIW honored over 2,100 academic all-conference recipients, 15 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, 28 CoSIDA Academic All-District recipients, and over 100 all-Americans.
