NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Three College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) student-athletes were selected to various preseason all-America teams this week.
Illinois Wesleyan senior defensive back Trevor Staley (Lake Zurich, Ill./H.S.)
was named a first team all-American on a pair of preseason teams including Street & Smith’s and Lindy’s Sports. Last fall, he was named a 2017 Associated Press Second Team Division III All-American, as well as D3football.com First Team All-North Region and CCIW All-Conference First Team selections. He finished third on the Titans with 56 tackles (44 solo) and a team-high three interceptions for 77 yards. Staley helped lead Illinois Wesleyan to a share of the CCIW title last season, which was the Titans’ 15th conference title in program history.
North Central senior linebacker DJ Warkenthien (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley)
was named a Street & Smith’s Preseason All-American as he helped lead the Cardinals to a share of the CCIW title last season, their 13th in program history and 10th since 2006. Warkenthien led North Central with 90 tackles (52 solo), 5.5 sacks and 20.0 tackles for loss in 2017. He was also named a CCIW All-Conference Second Team player.
Washington University in St. Louis junior punter Johnny Davidson (Inverness, Ill./Barrington)
was named a Lindy’s Sports Second Team Preseason All-American following a 2017 season where he ranked fourth in NCAA Division III in punting average (41.9). He punted 37 times for 1,550 yards including a career-best 73-yarder on October 7 at Washington & Lee. He was a D3football.com Third Team All-American and a Second Team All-South Region selection last season. Washington University in St. Louis begins its first season this fall as a CCIW associate member for football.
Additionally, both North Central (10-2) and Wheaton (8-2) appeared in Street & Smith’s and Lindy’s Sports Preseason Top 25 list. The Cardinals were ranked seventh by Street & Smith’s and 20th by Lindy’s Sports, while the Thunder were ranked 13th by Street & Smith’s and 16th by Lindy’s.
The CCIW football season begins on Friday, August 31 as Millikin travels to Hope. The season openers continue on Saturday, September 1 as Carthage hosts UW-Oshkosh, Monmouth (Ill.) travels to Wheaton, Carroll hosts Lakeland, Augustana travels to Coe, Washington University in St. Louis hosts Chicago and Anderson travels to North Park.

The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) was founded in 1946 and currently services nine member institutions including Augustana College (Rock Island, IL), Carroll University (Waukesha, WI), Carthage College (Kenosha, WI), Elmhurst College (Elmhurst, IL), Illinois Wesleyan University (Bloomington, IL), Millikin University (Decatur, IL), North Central College (Naperville, IL), North Park University (Chicago, IL) and Wheaton College (Wheaton, IL). During the 2016-17 academic year, the CCIW honored over 1,900 academic all-conference recipients, 10 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, 33 CoSIDA Academic All-District recipients, one CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year and over 100 all-Americans.
