Wheaton's Francis named CCIW Men's Basketball Player of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Wheaton senior guard Aston Francis was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday following his record-setting performance for the Thunder last week.

A native of Tyler, Texas and All Saints Episcopal (Business/Economics major), Francis scored 49 points on 17-of-27 shooting from the field, along with five rebounds in an 82-71 win at No. 13 North Central on Saturday. Francis surpassed Kent Raymond's single-season school record of 734 points set in 2007-08 as he now has 779 points this season. It was also Francis' ninth career game of 40 or more points, extending his own school record. Additionally, Francis was 10-of-19 from three-point range, which gave him 122 treys this season and surpassed his own school record. On Wednesday, Francis scored 35 points, pulled down eight rebounds, and added four assists and four steals in a loss to fourth-ranked Augustana.

In scoring 84 points last week, Francis surpassed Marv Johnson (2,044 points) for third place on Wheaton's career scoring list as he now has 2,089 career points, a mark that is the 11th most all-time by a CCIW player. Additionally, Francis now has 337 career three-pointers, the 22nd most in NCAA Division III history.
