North Central wins 39th CCIW men's outdoor track & field title in program history

KENOSHA, Wis. -- For the second-straight year and 39th time in program history, North Central claimed the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) men's outdoor track & field title on Saturday at Carthage College.

The Cardinals won with a team score of 250, followed by Augustana (149.5), Wheaton (106.5), Millikin (85), Carroll (82), Carthage (69), Illinois Wesleyan (39), North Park (19) and Elmhurst (17).

Millikin's Christian Zennon was named the CCIW Male Track Athlete of the Meet as he anchored the winning 4x100-meter relay (41.93), placed second in the 100-meter dash (10.79) and won the 200-meter dash (21.79) on Saturday. He is the first Big Blue athlete to be recognized with a conference championship performance award since Carl Alexander in 2000.

Wheaton's Leif Van Grinsven earned CCIW Male Field Athlete of the Meet honors as he won the decathlon with a meet-record performance of 7,009 points, beating the old record of 6,932 points by Wheaton's Paul Elsen in 1997.

North Central, under the direction of Frank Gramarosso, earned CCIW Men's Coaching Staff of the Year honors. Gramarosso has led the Cardinals to seven CCIW titles since being promoted to head coach in 2011.

NCAA Championships: The 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships will take place May 23-25 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. CCIW teams have won a combined nine outdoor national titles including six by the North Central men (1989, 1994, 1998, 2000, 2010, 2011) and the Illinois Wesleyan women (2008, 2010, 2016).

The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) was founded in 1946 and currently services nine member institutions including Augustana College (Rock Island, IL), Carroll University (Waukesha, WI), Carthage College (Kenosha, WI), Elmhurst College (Elmhurst, IL), Illinois Wesleyan University (Bloomington, IL), Millikin University (Decatur, IL), North Central College (Naperville, IL), North Park University (Chicago, IL) and Wheaton College (Wheaton, IL). During the 2017-18 academic year, the CCIW honored over 2,100 academic all-conference recipients, 15 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, 28 CoSIDA Academic All-District recipients, and over 100 all-Americans.
