NAPERVILLE, Ill. - On November 7, the CCIW Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosted Fall into Fitness with their Special Olympic friends.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has limited in person interaction between the two groups, this virtual Dance Party was a huge hit. Student-athletes led everyone through various dances and all had a chance to show off their best moves.

Through the generosity of All Spice Café, makers of gourmet hot sauce, based in Downers Grove, Ill., all participants received a Fall into Fitness t-shirt.

“The CCIW is very proud of its relationship with Special Olympics” shared Maureen Harty, CCIW Executive Director. “Our student-athletes love spending time with the Special Olympians. The smiles on everyone’s faces tell the story. We want to thank All Spice Café for their generous support of this event. They are great friends of the CCIW”.

Last spring, student-athletes and Special Olympians joined together virtually for Stretch into Spring. The conference hopes to make these annual events. This was the first Special Olympics event the CCIW has held during the 2021-22 academic year.

During non-COVID years, both organizations have taken part in a joint bocce ball clinic where Special Olympics athletes teach CCIW student-athletes how to play the game. Both organizations plan to conduct Unified Bocce events together in the future.

Special Olympics is the world's largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and physical disabilities, providing year-round training and activities to 5 million participants and Unified Sports partners in 172 countries.
