Giovanni Weeks and
Ryan Schwartz of Wheaton and Carroll's
Keon Miller were selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Student-Athletes of the Week on Monday.
Weeks, a junior running back and Business/Economics major from Kent City, Michigan, ran wild out of the Thunder backfield in Wheaton's 72-7 victory over Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday. Weeks carried the ball eight times for 167 yards and a career-high four touchdowns. Weeks opened the scoring in Saturday's game with a 10-yard touchdown run and added a 65-yard scoring scamper later in the first quarter. His third score came on a five-yard run early in the second quarter and he capped his day with a 75-yard touchdown run on Wheaton's first offensive play of the second half. With his explosive offensive performance, Weeks surpassed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season.
Schwartz, a senior linebacker and Business/Economics major from Burbank, Ohio, was the leading tackler for the Thunder defense that held the Titans to negative-34 yards rushing on Saturday. Schwartz tallied 10 tackles including eight solo stops, and two tackles for loss. Schwartz recorded two of Wheaton's four interceptions on the day, recording returns of 21 yards and 14 yards.
Miller, a sophomore wide receiver and kick returner from Richland Center, Wisconsin, returned a kickoff for a touchdown in Carroll's 26-17 victory over Carthage on Saturday. After Carthage scored the first points of the game in the first quarter, Miller took the ensuing kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown. The kickoff return was Carroll's first for a touchdown since the 2014 season.
