Haley Horner and Illinois Wesleyan's
Grace Sanders were each selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Volleyball Student-Athletes of the Week following their respective performances in the opening week of competition.
Horner, a senior outside hitter from Wheaton, Illinois and Wheaton North High School, helped lead the fifth-ranked Firebirds to a 4-0 record to begin the 2021 season as she averaged 4.93 kills per set and hit .344. She had 15 kills and seven digs in a sweep against Lakeland, 17 kills and eight digs in a sweep of Benedictine, eight kills and three digs in a sweep of Marian (Wis.), and 22 kills and nine digs in a four-set win over Loras.
Sanders, a junior outside hitter from Bloomington, Illinois and Bloomington High School, tallied 55 digs and added 38 kills, four blocks and five aces for the 4-1 Titans last week. She had 10 digs in a sweep of Illinois College, 14 digs and 13 kills in a four-set win over 24th-ranked Susquehanna, 20 against Clarkson, six in a sweep of Christopher Newport and five in a sweep of Lynchburg.
