NAPERVILLE, Ill. – WashU running back Kenneth Hamilton, North Central defensive lineman Dan Lester and NCC kicker Tanner Rains have been selected College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Student-Athletes of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Hamilton is the Offensive winner after scoring four total touchdowns in the #24/24 Bears’ 49-28 win at Augustana. The sophomore from High Ridge, Mo. rushed 17 times for 144 yards and three scores and tacked on five receptions for 36 yards and a touchdown. His 8-yard touchdown rush in the third quarter broke a 28-28 tie and his 7-yard score with 9:50 left in the game gave WashU further breathing room in improving to 6-0 on the season.
This week’s Defensive winner is Lester, who finished the top-ranked Cardinals’ 65-0 win over visiting Millikin with a team-high five total tackles and 3.0 sacks. Lester, a junior from Indian Creek, Ill., led a defensive unit that limited the Big Blue to 198 yards and 3.5 yards per play. Lester, who missed the NCC single-game sack record by one, currently ranks second in the league in tackles for loss and sacks.
Plainfield, Ill. native Rains claimed a share of this season’s Division III national scoring lead among kickers (61) thanks to a 21-yard field goal and eight successful extra-point attempts in the Cardinals’ win on Saturday. He also kicked off 11 times for a 56.3-yard average and four touchbacks.
