NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Illinois Wesleyan and Millikin were selected to play in the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship following the announcement of the full national bracket on Monday.
This marks the fifth-straight season that the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) will send two teams to the national tournament. This is also Illinois Wesleyan's fifth-straight appearance and Millikin's first appearance since a national title in 2005.
The Titans earned the CCIW's automatic bid to the NCAA postseason following a CCIW Tournament title on Saturday. Illinois Wesleyan will face DePauw on Friday at UW-Whitewater, while the Warhawks will face Ripon in the other first round game.
The Big Blue earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament following a share of the CCIW regular season title with the Titans. Millikin will face Wartburg on Friday at UW-Eau Claire. Eau Claire will face North Central University (Minn.) in the other first round contest.
The CCIW has won two NCAA national titles in women's basketball including one by Millikin (2005) and one by Illinois Wesleyan (2012). North Central won a women's basketball national title in 1983 before the CCIW began sponsoring women's sports.
The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) was founded in 1946 and currently services nine member institutions including Augustana College (Rock Island, IL), Carroll University (Waukesha, WI), Carthage College (Kenosha, WI), Elmhurst University (Elmhurst, IL), Illinois Wesleyan University (Bloomington, IL), Millikin University (Decatur, IL), North Central College (Naperville, IL), North Park University (Chicago, IL) and Wheaton College (Wheaton, IL).
