NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Wheaton junior midfielder Alessandro D’Argento has been named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week and North Park sophomore defender Christian Vaaland has been tabbed CCIW Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday morning.
D’Argento delivered an outstanding performance in the Thunder’s 3-1 non-league win over WashU on Saturday at Joe Bean Stadium. The Wayne, Ill. native assisted on the match’s first tally in the 29th minute, notched another assist on the match winner at 58:44 and provided valuable insurance for the hosts with his third goal of the campaign in the 67th minute.
Vaaland, a sophomore from Rennesøy, Norway, anchored NPU’s back line in a pair of shutout victories last week over Lake Forest and Augustana that extended the Vikings’ season-opening win streak to eight. Five of NPU’s eight wins have been shutouts this season. Vaaland also added the match-winning goal for North Park in its 5-0 win over Lake Forest last Tuesday.
