NAPERVILLE – Wheaton senior Ethan Harsted claimed the championship of the 141-pound weight class at last weekend’s 81st annual Pete Wilson Wheaton Invitational to earn College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Wrestling Student-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. The announcement marked Harsted’s second weekly honor from the CCIW this month.
Harsted became the fourth Wheaton wrestler to win a title at the event since 2000 after winning five times over the course of the two-day tournament. A victory via pinfall kicked off his run to the finals, followed by back-to-back major decisions and a 3-1 sudden victory over Bradley Rosen of North Central in the semifinal round.
In the final, the Ottawa, Ill. native prevailed in a 2-1 decision thanks to a 1:09 advantage in riding time in his bout with Jake Dado of Ozarks.
Harsted has won the CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week award three times in his career, including a selection on Jan. 17 of this season.
