NAPERVILLE – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) recognized Elmhurst’s Luis Aviles (offense) and North Central’s Tommaso Polidori (defense) as Student-Athletes of the Week in men’s soccer on Tuesday morning.
Offense: Luis Aviles, Elmhurst
Aviles tallied three goals last week, leading the Bluejays to a pair of victories over CCIW opponents. The junior forward from Wheeling, Ill. delivered the match winner on an 11th-minute penalty kick last Wednesday at Augustana, then scored twice in the first seven minutes for EU in its 4-0 triumph over Millikin on Saturday. He scored the match-winning goal on Saturday just 20 seconds into the contest.
Defense: Tommaso Polidori, North Central
Polidori, a freshman from Rome, Italy, spearheaded a North Central defense that yielded only four shots on target between league bouts against North Park and Carroll last week. The Cardinals went 1-0-1 in those two contests, holding Carroll to just four shot attempts last Saturday, more than 12 attempts below its season average.
