Cardinals Headline CCIW Women’s Soccer Postseason Awards

NAPERVILLE – Just days after winning its first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) regular-season women’s soccer title, North Central landed a league-best eight players on the All-CCIW Team released by the conference office on Friday afternoon.

Eighth-year North Central head coach Andrew Gamarra was voted CCIW Coach of the Year, the first North Central coach to earn the honor in women’s soccer. He guided NCC to a perfect 8-0-0 mark, the first team to sweep through the league schedule since Wheaton in 2019. Gamarra’s guidance helped five Cardinals secure All-CCIW honors on Friday.

Elle Sutter, a senior from Peoria, Ill., earned the CCIW Offensive Student-Athlete of the Year award. The 5-foot-9 forward was a three-time CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week in 2023 and ran away as the league’s scoring leader with 11 goals and two assists in conference play. She helped NCC wrap up its 18-match regular season as the nation’s eighth-ranked scoring offense with 4.06 goals scored per match.

North Central also made waves as the only team in league history to hold CCIW opponents scoreless – thanks to the efforts of CCIW Defensive Student-Athlete of the Year Kassandra Salviola. The Naperville, Ill. native emerged as the Cardinals’ most efficient defender, starting all eight league matches and helping NCC limit opponents to less than 4.0 shot attempts per match. She added an assist in the Cardinals’ win over Millikin on Oct. 18 and was named CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week on Oct. 17.

The CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year was awarded to NCC freshman midfielder Jordan Lange, who tallied seven goals and five assists to trail only Sutter as the conference’s leading scorer in CCIW play. The Aurora, Ill. native was CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week twice and logged multiple points in five of the Cardinals’ eight CCIW matches, including her first career hat trick in a 6-0 win at Illinois Wesleyan on Oct. 21.

Augustana’s Janey Castoe was selected as the inaugural CCIW Goalkeeper of the Year. The three-year starter from La Quinta, Calif. was the only CCIW goalkeeper to rank third or better among conference players in goals-against average, saves percentage, shutouts per match and saves per match. She closed the league schedule with six shutouts and a 0.56 goals-against mark over 637 minutes of action.
