NAPERVILLE – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) unveiled its Student-Athlete of the Week award recipients for the 11th and final week of the 2023 season on Monday afternoon.
Offense: DeAngelo Hardy, North Central
Hardy, a 6-foot-2 senior wide receiver, made NCC history Saturday by becoming the first player in program history to throw for a touchdown, rush for a touchdown and catch a touchdown in the Cardinals’ 61-17 CCIW-clinching victory at Augustana. The Lake Villa, Ill. native delivered seven receptions for 120 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for a 6-yard touchdown to open the scoring in the first quarter and throwing a 1-yard score in the final quarter. Hardy has collected weekly CCIW honors three times in 2023.
Defense: Zach McNees, Illinois Wesleyan
McNees, who previously won CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week accolades on Oct. 2, piled up 3.0 sacks to lead the Titans’ defense in their 49-13 victory over Elmhurst at Tucci Stadium. The lost yardage on the sacks totaled 15 yards for the junior defensive lineman from Hillsboro, Mo., who finished the day with eight total tackles. McNees also logged a quarterback hurry and a blocked kick in IWU’s win.
Special Teams: Matthew Noguez, Illinois Wesleyan
Noguez averaged 39.0 yards on five punts for Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday. The junior from Berwyn, Ill., pinned visiting Elmhurst inside its own 20-yard-line three times and had a game-long punt of 50 yards, his second kick of the season to exceed 50 yards.
