NAPERVILLE – North Central scored a championship-record 169.0 team points to claim its first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Wrestling Championship since 2019, Thursday evening at Merner Field House in Naperville, Ill.
The Cardinals won six of the 10 brackets en route to the title and broke the previous scoring record of 157.5 set by Millikin last February. First-year NCC head coach Zach Cook was voted CCIW Coach of the Year.
North Central is the first team to sweep the league’s dual meet and tournament championships.
Millikin, the three-time defending team champion, was the runner up on Thursday with 111.0 points. Wheaton was third with 100.0 points, Concordia Wisconsin tallied 96.5 points for fourth place and event newcomer Aurora was the fifth-place team with 80.5 points.
Aurora’s Cam Johnson was selected Most Outstanding Wrestler in a vote by CCIW head coaches. Johnson, a sophomore from Oswego, Ill., was also the recipient of the CCIW Elite 26 Award.
