NAPERVILLE – College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week Max Wilson of Wheaton is also a member of the D3football.com Team of the Week, the website announced Tuesday.
The junior defensive back from Wheaton recorded two interceptions last Saturday in the Thunder’s 30-21 victory against #19 Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The win helped Wheaton rise two spots on Monday to #11 in the D3football.com national rankings.
Wilson’s first pick stopped a Titans' drive at the guests' 39-yard line midway through the second quarter and setup a Thunder field goal later in the quarter to give Wheaton a 17-9 lead. Wilson's second pick came with 2:42 remaining, on a Titans' fourth-and-16, and was returned to the Thunder 30-yard line. The interception gave the hosts the ball with 2:42 remaining in the game and a 30-21 lead that the offense ran out for the remainder of the contest.
Tuesday’s selection marks Wheaton’s 65th all-time selection to the D3football.com Team of the Week since 1999, as well as the first since quarterback Will Bowers on Nov. 8 of last season.
The Team of the Week, presented by Scoutware, is D3football.com's weekly honor roll, in its 25th season of recognizing the top performance at each position from the previous week. Players are nominated by schools.
