NAPERVILLE – With the first full week of the 2024 regular season in the books, the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced its first Men’s Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week honorees on Monday afternoon.
Hitter: Aidan Bolen, Augustana
Bolen, a 6-foot-5 junior from Allen, Texas, helped Augie to a 2-0 start to the season with non-league sweeps of Concordia Chicago and Concordia Wisconsin.
He opened the campaign with nine kills and a .727 hitting percentage in the opener against the Cougars, then followed with 14 kills on 21 swings without an error in the victory over the Falcons. He averaged 3.83 kills per set while attacking at a .688 clip.
Setter: Tyler Donovan, North Central
Donovan, an AVCA All-American last spring, picked up where he left off for the Cardinals, averaging 6.5 assists over NCC’s first six sets of the campaign. The Lindenhurst, Ill. native finished the Cardinals’ three-set victory over Adrian with 24 assists, helping the Cardinals put a .411 attack percentage.
Donovan is now a five-time CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week in his career after securing four selections last season.
Defensive: Ryan Cholewinski, Carthage
The league’s first defensive Student-Athlete of the Week is Cholewinski, who had multiple blocks in each of Carthage’s first four matches of the season.
The 6-foot-8 middle emerged for seven blocks in the Firebirds’ five-set showdown with NYU, boosting his season-opening average to 1.0 block per set. The junior, also from Lindenhurst, Ill., added 35 kills in the season’s first four matches.
