NAPERVILLE – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced the 2024 Men’s Soccer All-Conference Team and postseason specialty awards on Friday.
The list included five student-athletes from 2024 regular-season conference champion Wheaton and a league-six selections from runner-up North Park. Six of the 12 First Team honorees came from either the Thunder or Vikings – three selections from each program.
Pryse Anderson, a senior forward at Wheaton, became the Thunder’s first Student-Athlete of the Year honoree since 2015 after being voted CCIW Offensive Student-Athlete of the Year on Friday. The Fort Worth, Texas native finished his eight-match CCIW schedule as the league leader with five goals and 12 total points.
Millikin’s Nacho Diaz was the CCIW Defensive Student-Athlete of the Year – the second consecutive postseason he has earned the award from the conference. Diaz’s efforts along MU’s back line helped the Big Blue tie for fourth place in the final league standings and earn their first CCIW Tournament bid since 2014.
Mason Escalante of Wheaton repeated as the CCIW Goalkeeper of the Year. Escalante, a senior from Santa Cruz, Calif., had a 1.13 goals-against average in eight CCIW starts and was the only goalkeeper to earn a spot on the All-CCIW First Team. He had two shutouts and 33 saves, finishing the league slate with a .786 saves percentage.
The CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year was awarded to Bastian Eikeland of North Park. One of only two freshmen on the All-CCIW First Team, the midfielder shared the CCIW lead for assists in conference play with four. He was named CCIW Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week on Oct. 1 after a three-assist performance in the Vikings’ win over Augustana on Sept. 28.
Steve McCrath guided Wheaton to its first league title since 2015 to earn CCIW Joe Bean Coach of the Year honors for the second consecutive postseason. McCrath, now in his third season on the Wheaton sideline, helped direct the league’s top-scoring offense with 16 goals in conference play. WC went 6-2-0 against league opponents.
