Weekly Men’s Volleyball Honorees Announced By CCIW

NAPERVILLE – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) selected three individuals as Student-Athletes of the Week in men’s volleyball on Monday afternoon.
 
Hitter: Owen Otto, Carthage
Otto, a freshman outside hitter from Hartford, Wis., attached at a .456 clip in helping #13 Carthage to victories over 14th-ranked Dominican and Concordia Wisconsin last week. Otto had 13 kills without an error on 27 attempts in last Thursday’s win over the Stars. He later tallied 17 kills and three service aces in the victory over CUW on Saturday.
 
Setter: Gene McNulty, Carthage
McNulty averaged 5.67 assists across nine sets and set the table for the Firebirds’ .290 team hitting percentage in last week’s wins over Dominican and Concordia Wisconsin. The Oak Lawn, Ill. native had a season-high 31 assists in Thursday’s win over Dominican and logged a 20-assists, 11-dig double-double in the win at CUW.
 
Defense/Libero: Danny Smithers, North Central
North Central prevailed in four sets last Thursday against MSOE thanks to a season-high 22 digs from Smithers, the most digs in a four-set match in NCC history. The junior from Naperville did not commit a reception error, ending the contest with 5.5 digs per set.
