INDIANAPOLIS -- The Illinois Wesleyan University softball team will make its 20th NCAA Division III Softball Tournament appearance this week, May 16-18, as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin regular season and tournament champions travel to Oshkosh, Wis. for NCAA Regional play. IWU will take on Wartburg College in its opening game Thursday, May 16, at 2:30 p.m. in the weekend pod hosted by University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, which also includes Saint Benedict.
The Titans won one game each day over a three-day span to claim the CCIW Tournament title Saturday, May 11, as the top-seeded Green and White rolled past fourth-seeded Millikin University, 4-2. Illinois Wesleyan's record sits at 30-10 on the year and is amid its best season since 2019.
IWU was the lone CCIW school to make the 62-team field. The Titans have played games against nine teams in the tournament, including their first round opponent Wartburg.
Forty-one conferences received an automatic qualification (Pool A). One institution was selected from Pool B, which includes independent institutions and schools from conferences that do not meet the automatic qualification criteria. The 20 remaining teams were selected on an at-large basis from automatic qualifying conferences and institutions included in Pool B.
The winner between IWU and Wartburg will face the winner of the UW-Oshkosh-Saint Benedict bout Friday, May 17, at 11 a.m. The losers of the games will square off at 1:30 p.m.
