North Central Keeps Top Spot in Both National Polls

NAPERVILLE – The top-ranked team in the D3football.com and American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) national polls remains North Central, according to announcements on Sunday and Monday, respectively.
 
The Cardinals won their College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) opener on the road on Saturday, 63-0 over Carthage. NCC received 16 first-place votes from D3football.com for 616 points, nine points clear of #2 Cortland. The margin was a little wider in the AFCA poll with the Cardinals securing 33 of 50 first-place votes for 1,231 points.
 
Wheaton also won its league opener on Saturday, a 42-3 decision over visiting Augustana. The Thunder were 19th in the D3football.com poll, one spot down from a week ago. WC slid two spots to #24 in the AFCA rankings.
 
WashU appeared on multiple ballots in both polls. The Bears collected 11 points from D3football.com, sixth-most among unranked teams receiving votes. WashU also had the sixth-most points in the AFCA poll among unranked squads with 27.
