NAPERVILLE – Carthage’s AJ Johnson is the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Student-Athlete of the Week in men’s basketball, according to a Monday afternoon release from the league office.
Johnson, a junior, had a pair of 20-point performances in victories over CCIW opponents last week.
Carthage was a 93-78 winner over North Central last Wednesday thanks to a 22-point, six-assist, three-rebound effort from Johnson. The Oswego, Ill. native was 5-for-9 from the floor, 3-for-4 from 3-point range and 9-for-9 at the foul line.
Johnson added 20 points, seven assists, six boards and a steal on Saturday in the Firebirds’ 85-78 victory at Wheaton. He didn’t commit a turnover in 38 minutes of action and added another perfect performance at the free-throw line to finish the week 13-for-13.
