NAPERVILLE — North Park’s Nico Chavez and Wheaton’s Jack Krahel have been selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Soccer Student-Athletes of the Week, announced Tuesday. Chavez powered the Vikings’ attack with three goals over two matches, while Krahel extended his dominant stretch in goal with a pair of shutouts to lead the Thunder.
Offensive: Nico Chavez, North Park
Chavez delivered a six-point week for the Vikings with three goals. The junior from Des Plaines, Ill. hit the back of the net in NPU’s 3-2 loss to 19th-ranked Chicago last Wednesday, then scored both goals in North Park’s 2-1 come-from-behind league win Saturday at Carroll.
Defensive: Jack Krahel, Wheaton
Winning the league’s weekly defensive honor for the third consecutive week, Krahel played all 180 minutes and posted shutouts in both of the Thunder’s matches. He tallied six saves in a 1-0 victory over Carthage before recording a career-high 10 saves in a 4-0 win against Millikin.
The Mableton, Ga. native has now registered three consecutive clean sheets and leads the conference with seven shutouts, while boasting the league’s best goals-against average (.333) and save percentage (.944) in conference play.
