NAPERVILLE — The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced Monday that Illinois Wesleyan’s Alex Barouniotis, along with Carroll’s Payton Depies and Maggie McGough, were selected as the CCIW Women’s Volleyball Student-Athletes of the Week. Barouniotis earned Hitter of the Week honors, while Depies was recognized as Setter of the Week and McGough claimed Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week accolades.
 
Hitter: Alex Barouniotis, Illinois Wesleyan
Bardouniotis led the Illinois Wesleyan offense to a 2-0 week, including a sweep over league foe Millikin on Friday to claim at least a share of the CCIW regular-season title.
 
For the week, Bardouniotis totaled 20 kills, an average of 3.33 per set on a .244 attack percentage, 21 digs, averaging 3.50 per set, three aces, two blocks, and an assist. Opening the week with a sweep at #13 WashU last Tuesday, Bardouniotis posted a 10-kill, 11-dig double-double performance, while adding two aces, an assist, and a block to her stat line. The sophomore followed the performance with 10 kills on a .364 clip along with 10 kills, a block, and an ace.
 
Setter: Payton Depies, Carroll
Depies was instrumental in guiding the Pioneers to a 2-0 week, including a conference victory over Wheaton last Friday. Running the offense in a 5-1 system, Depies dished out 83 assists across two matches, averaging 11.86 assists per set. The junior from Germantown, Wis. also contributed in other key areas, finishing the week with 14 digs.
 
Defensive: Maggie McGough, Carroll
McGough anchored the Pioneers’ back row in the victories over Loras and Wheaton, averaging 6.29 digs per set. She tallied 44 total digs, including 32 in a four-set win over Loras last Wednesday.
