NAPERVILLE — The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) unveiled its 2025 football awards on Tuesday. North Central set the pace, collecting four of the conference’s major honors, while newcomers from WashU and Carthage added their names to the league’s list of first-year award recipients. In all, 70 student-athletes received All-CCIW honors on Tuesday.
North Central senior Thomas Skokna was selected as the Art Keller Offensive Student-Athlete of the Year, while senior teammate John Sullivan earned the Don Larson Defensive Student-Athlete of the Year accolade. NCC junior Cortez Jones added to the Cardinals’ haul as the Offensive Line Student-Athlete of the Year. North Central’s staff – led by fourth-year head coach Brad Spencer – collected the Bob Reade Coaching Staff of the Year award.
The league’s top newcomers also impressed, with WashU offensive lineman Jason Doyle recognized as the First-Year Offensive Student-Athlete of the Year and Carthage defensive back Mariano Talamantez earning First-Year Defensive Student-Athlete of the Year honors.
Skokna is the ninth wide receiver in league history to earn the Art Keller Offensive Student-Athlete of the Year award and the first since NCC’s Andrew Kamienski in 2021. The Hinsdale, Ill. native led the league in scoring this season with 19 touchdowns and was also second on the league leaderboard with 51 receptions and 806 receiving yards.
Sullivan repeated as the league’s Don Larson Defensive Student-Athlete of the Year, the first player to seize consecutive selections as the league’s top defensive performer since Dallas McRae of Wheaton in 2019 and 2021. A senior defensive lineman from Lake Villa, Ill., Sullivan logged 12.5 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks in nine league contests for an NCC defense that yielded just 5.8 points and 195.3 yards per league game.
Jones, a junior, becomes the fourth different student-athlete to win the league’s Offensive Line Student-Athlete of the Year since 2018, joining former Cardinals Sharmore Clarke (2018-19, 2021), Jeske Maples (2022-23) and Sam Pryor (2024). The Lansing, Ill. native powered an NCC offensive front that churned up 514.1 yards and 55.2 points per game during the conference schedule.
Doyle is WashU’s second consecutive player to earn a CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year award after Jack Middleton earned the defensive honor in 2024. Doyle, the 2025 winner on offense, helped the Bears rank third in the league in scoring with 31.6 points per game. WashU was especially strong in the run game behind Doyle’s blocking, piling up 195.8 rushing yards per contest to rank second in the league.
Talamantez was the only freshman to earn All-CCIW honors on Tuesday, landing on the Second Team after a campaign in which he averaged 5.0 tackles per game. He was one of only four players to have at least three interceptions against CCIW opponents and made a career-high 11 tackles at North Central on Sept. 20.
Spencer led the Cardinals to their fifth straight undefeated league title, improving his own conference mark to 36-0 since becoming head coach prior to the 2022 season. The Cardinals have won a league-record 51 consecutive conference games. Owning the nation’s top ranking since the preseason, North Central led the CCIW in scoring offense (55.2) and scoring defense (5.8) and placed a league-high 19 players on the All-CCIW teams on Tuesday.
Wheaton's Ethan Brunner was the CCIW Elite 26 award recipient, presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average on the teams finishing first or second in the final league standings.
