Griffin’s Dominant Run at Luther Open Earns CCIW Women’s Wrestling Weekly Honor

NAPERVILLE — Augustana’s Moni Griffin has been named the CCIW Women’s Wrestling Student-Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after turning in a dominant effort at the Luther Open last Saturday. Competing at 131 pounds, Griffin went a perfect 5-0 with four falls and a tech fall, needing less than four total minutes of mat time across all five bouts.

The junior from Chicago opened the tournament with back-to-back first-period pins over Emma Warth of Southeastern (0:22) and Ashton Hofeling, also of Southeastern (0:50). She then added another fall in 39 seconds against Hawkeye’s Mia Ahrendsen in the quarterfinals.

Griffin followed that with a 10-0 tech fall over Wartburg’s Kaydn Meyer in just 1:16 before closing her run with a 36-second pin of Upper Iowa’s Kylee Shoop to secure the title.

With the performance, the Vikings junior improved to 6–3 on the season.
